Our
music-docent program was established in 1996 and continues to
grow, serving schools throughout San Diego County.
Here, Classics 4
Kids conductor Dana Mambourg-Zimbric takes docents
through an up-coming program.
2006-2007
q Docents prepared 14,000 students in 550
classes for San Diego Symphony and
Classics For Kids concerts. A new record!
Grants and scholarships totaling $18,376 allowed 3000
more students to attend those concerts and allowed ArtsBusExpress to bus 4,000
additional students to them.
2005-2006
q Docents prepared 9300 students at 96
schools for San Diego Symphony and
Classics For Kids concerts. Schools received 225 copies of The Incredible Story of
the Orchestra.
2004-2005
q Docents prepared 9000 students for San Diego Symphony, Sweetwater Union High School District, and Classics for Kids concerts.
q The Foundation for Advancement of Music Education (FAME) asked docents to visit third-grade classes in 20 northwest county-schools before they attended the San Diego Symphony's "A Musical Journey Into Space." FAME sponsored buses and tickets for this group, and our docents rose to the occasion!
q One docent was again responsible for having an entire underserved school (450+) attend "A Musical Journey Into Space."
2003-2004
q Docents prepped 4500 students at 42 schools.
q The enthusiasm of a single docent convinced the teachers of a North Park elementary school that every student would enjoy the San Diego Symphony's "Lewis & Clark: a Musical Expedition." Docents previewed the concert experience for all 450+ of them.
2002-2003
q Docents prepared 3745 students at 44 schools for the San Diego Symphony's Young People's Concerts and the Sweetwater District's Honors Concert.
We Are Committed to Music:
We recruit and train docents, and donate administration time, training materials, and concert-specific CDs.
In
2005-2006 docents are leaving an illustrated book, "The Story of the Incredible
Orchestra," at the schools they visit.
